The Shoals Entrepreneurial Center (SEC) is a business incubator in which start-up and emerging companies locate during their initial growth phase. Business incubators are characterized by shared space, services, and equipment in a controlled overhead environment. The incubator atmosphere allows a small start-up businesses to allocate more of its limited resources toward growing the business. Occupancy for companies at an incubator can range from one to five years. Incubator clients receive mentoring, networking and public relations opportunities, access to equipment, and referral to professionals in order to help prepare them to move out into their own facility and become self-sustaining members of the business community.
